As chairman of The Hillsborough International
Oyster Festival 2010 it gives me immense pleasure to
welcome you all to this truly international event which is now in its 18th year. Hillsborough village plays host once again to a fun-filled weekend packed with events and surprises for all ages organised by a committee of volunteers from the local community. This event has managed to put Hillsborough on the map and portrays an inviting and hospitable picture of our community. Through the committee’s efforts many people and local businesses within the community benefit from the many
visitors the Festival attracts. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Hillsborough and Lisburn, the nominated charity Struggle Against MuscularDystrophy (S.A.M) raised £25,000 through public donations, auctions and sponsored events. SAM is a zero-cost charity run by volunteers based in Northern Ireland. The charity will be collecting at each of the organised events and on Hillsborough Main Street during the Soap Box Derby and World International Oyster Eating Championships on the Saturday.
This year’s Festival theme is Vegas, Vegas starting with a new look Thursday! ‘Viva La Glam’ will kick off for the ladies in the festival Marquee tent with the crowning of the ‘Oyster Pearl’! Families can enjoy the action at the ‘Norn Ironman’ Challenge in Hillsborough Park. The contest begins on the Thursday evening to find the Oyster Eating World Champion, who will go through to the final on Saturday!

The Vegas Ball is on Friday and on Saturday street
entertainment, stalls and kids fancy dress with the
Soap Box Derby will transform Main Street. The World
Oyster Eating Championship will bring the Festival to a peak. The competition will have a different format between speed eliminators and the big title of ‘World Oyster Eating
Champion’ with three finalists appearing on Saturday for the pinnacle of the competition. Back by popular demand is Super Dream Car Sunday which is sure to raise your blood pressure if you are fortunate to experience it!
